Too Late

I just read an article that made me want to cry and hold my daughter as close as possible.

The article was about a babysitter on trial for the murder of a 1 year old boy she was taking care of. The mother of the boy had noticed bruises on her son but had not been concerned enough to stop sending her boy to the babysitter. She thought the babysitter's son was simply playing rough with her son. Her son died in the hospital with a fractured skull.

Now, of course, I don't know if the babysitter in question purposefully did something to hurt the boy or if a horrible accident occurred; but why, oh WHY did that mother not DO something when she first started noticing the bruises?

We love our daycare lady, but if I ever found a bruise on my little girl I would make sure to find out EXACTLY how it happened. And if it happened more than once-in-a-blue-moon or I started to feel uncomfortable about it, there would be no measure of how fast I would take my baby out of that situation.

It breaks my heart to think of that mother, or any mother, losing her child like that.
